5 killed, 25 injured in fire at Russian military research facility
Fire erupts at research institute of Russian Aerospace Forces in western Tver city
MOSCOW
Five people were killed and 25 injured in a fire at a research facility of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the western city of Tver, authorities said Thursday.
"Three more victims were found at the scene of the fire. In total, five people were killed, the death toll may rise further. 25 were injured," the Russian Emergency Ministry said in a statement.The ministry said 13 people were taken to the hospital with severe burns, including five who were admitted to intensive care units in serious condition.
The fire engulfed a 1,500 square meter (16,000 square feet) area and six firefighting units and a helicopter are engaged in putting it out, it said.
The top three floors of a four-story wooden building are burning and its roof collapsed, it added.
According to preliminary data, a malfunction in electrical wiring caused the fire.
