Benfica announced Tuesday that they parted ways with manager Jorge Jesus by mutual agreement.
The Portuguese club thanked Jesus for work done in the last year and a half and wished him the best for the future.
Benfica said Nelson Verissimo will take over head coach duties at the first team until the end of the season.
The club from Lisbon added that they will fulfill contractual obligations until the end of the existing employment relationship or until Jesus and his coaching staff make new professional commitments.
Jesus, 67, joined Benfica in August 2020.
The Portuguese manager has three Portugal League titles in 2010, 2014, and 2015.
