Turkey on Friday "strongly" condemned the "heinous terrorist attack" Thursday in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

At least 14 people were killed and more than six wounded when a car bomb exploded on the busiest street in Mogadishu.

Somali-based al-Qaeda-affiliated group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on the Internet.

In a written statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry conveyed condolences "to the families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded."

"Turkey will maintain its strong solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Somalia in the fight against terrorism," the statement added.

Last October, at least 300 people died in a double car bombing in Mogadishu, the deadliest attack in modern Somali history.
