Mexico's front pages: How US neighbor, largest trade partner reacted to Trump's victory
As Trump readies for second term, Mexico calls for tranquility

Mexican newspapers carried Donald Trump’s victory on their front pages Wednesday after he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the US presidential election.
El Universal was among the first to report Trump’s return to the White House as the president-elect surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed to win.
"Trump, back to the White House," the newspaper published on its first page.
In Reforma, the front page announced the advent of the Republican candidate’s victory: "All Trump! Back to the White House and takes the House and Senate".
"Trump Declares Victory," was the headline in El Informador, which also wrote that Republicans also regained the majority in the Senate.
Milenio underscored the victory in Congress by the Republican Party, writing "All the Power" as a headline and saying Trump leads Kamala, and Republicans take the lead in both chambers.
El Financiero wrote "Donald Trump's Victory Seems Likely," saying, "Republican Donald Trump was poised to become the new President of the United States".
Following Trump's adversarial and fierce campaign promises, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged the Mexican people to remain calm. She was mainly speaking to Mexican immigrants and business people living in the US -- the main drivers of Trump's foreign policy regarding Mexico.
"There is no reason for concern. To our fellow countrymen and countrywomen, to their families here, to the Mexican businesswomen and businessmen, there is no reason for concern. Mexico always moves forward," she said.
Trump has threatened to impose a 25% - 100% tariff on goods imported from Mexico if Sheinbaum does not curb migratory inflows to that country’s northern border, drawing concerns among investors and the Mexican government, which had pledged the country's industry to nearshoring ventures.
International markets are liking the landslide victory, with the US dollar surpassing the 20 pesos mark Wednesday -- its highest in years in Mexican markets.
"We are an independent, free, sovereign country, and there will be a good relationship with the United States; I am convinced of that," said Sheinbaum.
The Mexican president has refrained from congratulating the president-elect because US election authorities have yet to formally announce a victory for Trump.
