YAOUNDE, Cameroon
At least eight people have been killed in intercommunal clashes between farmers and herders in the eastern Chad, an official said on Friday.
"On Thursday, Ouaddaian farmers clashed with Fulani herders in the locality of Dourrene located about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) east of the city of Abeche," Brahim Seid Mahamat, the governor of Ouaddai province, told Anadolu Agency.
"Eight people were killed and many others injured. The deceased were buried on Friday morning by their respective families," Mahamat said.
For several years, eastern Chad has been plagued by clashes.
In August 2019, at least 37 people were killed in three days of fighting between farmers and herders in eastern Chad.
