KHARTOUM, Sudan

The deputy leader of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, held talks Saturday with Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin in the Russian capital Moscow.

Discussions between the two sides dwelt on bilateral relations and means of boosting cooperation in the political and military fields, the Sovereign Council said in a statement.

Hemedti said Sudan enjoys “enormous potentials which represent a great opportunity for Russian investments in order to achieve mutual benefits for both countries.”

Fomin, for his part, underlined the Russian commitment to "strengthening prospects for cooperation and working to improve joint coordination in all forums based on the principles of non-interference in internal affairs,” the statement said.

Hemedti arrived in Moscow on Wednesday on an official visit for talks with Russian officials.

The visit coincided with a Russian military operation in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that Moscow had no plan to occupy the neighboring country, but wanted to “demilitarize” and “denazify” Ukraine.
