Sudan said Saturday it will evacuate Sudanese nationals stranded in Ukraine through Poland and Romania.

The Sudanese Embassy in Kyiv said Polish authorities have allowed Sudanese nationals in Ukraine to leave through its territories, the state news agency SUNA reported.

“Coordination has also been made with Romanian authorities to allow the crossing of Sudanese in Ukraine,” it added.

The embassy called on Sudanese nationals in Ukraine to register their data to accelerate their evacuation from the country.

There are no official estimates about the number of Sudanese citizens in Ukraine.

Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine entered its third day on Saturday, with the latest reports indicating clashes between Russian and Ukrainian troops in Kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the military intervention Thursday, days after recognizing two separatist-held enclaves in eastern Ukraine. He claimed that Moscow had no plan to occupy its western neighbor, but wanted to “demilitarize” and “denazify” Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Moscow of trying to install a puppet government, vowing that Ukrainians will defend their country against Russian aggression.
