TRIPOLI, Libya
A Sudanese irregular migrant was found dead in the desert in southern Libya.
The Public Prosecutor's Office received a notification regarding a body found in the desert south of Kufra, approximately 49 kilometers (30 miles) from the town, according to a statement Monday from the Kufra branch of the Libyan First Aid Service.
A team consisting of forensic doctors, police and prosecution officials was dispatched to the area, and it was determined that it belonged to a Sudanese irregular migrant.
A preliminary examination found that the migrant died of thirst, the statement said.
Libya is a popular departure point for irregular migrants trying to reach Europe by sea.
