The second 10th anniversary exhibition of the Istanbul Photo Awards has opened in New York.
The exhibition of the international news photography competition organized by Anadolu reopened Thursday at the Blue Gallery on 46th Street in Manhattan where it will remain until Nov. 12.
The first display in New York of this year's 10th anniversary exhibition opened on Oct. 15 at the Turkevi Center with a ceremony hosted by Anadolu’s President and CEO Serdar Karagoz.
Numerous diplomatic and international dignitaries, academics, media members, and others attended the exhibition that showcased powerful images capturing global events from the past year, ranging from Israel's ongoing attacks in Palestine to the devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye in February 2023, dubbed "the disaster of the century."
The exhibition also highlights critical issues like Mexican drug cartel violence, Afghan refugee camps, plastic pollution in Nigeria, and the destruction of elephant habitats in Sri Lanka.
In addition, it includes impactful sports photos, featuring the World Swimming Championships in Japan and the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament, both of which made headlines in the past year.
This year, more than 20,000 photographs were submitted to the Istanbul Photo Awards, which evaluates single and series photographs in categories such as news, sports, environment, portrait, and daily life.
The 2024 contest is supported by Turkcell as the communication sponsor, Sony as the award sponsor, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) as the international event sponsor, and Turkish Airlines (THY) as the airline sponsor.
