WASHINGTON

US House committee meeting erupted into chaos Thursday night after lawmakers started bickering.

"I don't think you know what we're here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you're reading," Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett during a hearing which was supposed to revolve around a resolution over Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, immediately moved to strike Greene's words, saying: "That is absolutely unacceptable, how dare you attack the physical appearance of another person."

However, Greene refused to apologize. "Yes, I’ll strike my words but I’m not apologizing," she said.

"Are your feelings hurt?" Greene responded.

"Oh baby girl … don't even play," Ocasio-Cortez shot back.

“I'm just curious, just to better understand your ruling. If somebody on this committee starts talking about somebody's bleach-blonde, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?” she said.

"Uh, what now?" Chairman James Comer asked in response.

Later, Crockett said on X that Greene "wanted to talk about my appearance in COMMITTEE?!" and added it is against the rules to do so.

"She refused to apologize! The chairman ruled that it was ok…AND I asked for clarification about what qualifies as “engaging in personalities” & basically wanted to know if I could talk shit about her appearance as… well… y’all know what she looks like, right? PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES! This is what happens when mentally deficient people who can’t read and follow rules or just don’t give a damn… somehow end up in CONGRESS!" she added.

For her part, Greene said some people are upset about the scene from Oversight Committee last night.

"Well I’m upset and disgusted pretty much everyday at the Democrat controlled DOJ, federal government, and Congress in general," she said on X.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson said that he was disappointed over the chaos last night.

"It was not a good look for Congress," Johnson said, according to media reports.
