WASHINGTON

US Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign raised a record $81 million in the first 24 hours of her candidacy after President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race.

Over 888,000 grassroots donors made donations in the past 24 hours, 60% of whom made their first contribution of the 2024 cycle, her campaign said Monday, adding Team Harris’ 24-hour raise is "the highest 24-hour raise of any candidate in history."

In the last 24 hours, it said the campaign signed up 43,000 of those donors to make recurring donations.

"The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections," campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said.

Shortly after Biden said Sunday that he would be ending his re-election campaign, he endorsed Harris to replace him as the Democratic presidential candidate.
