ANKARA

Palestinian authorities on Friday informed Turkish officials that Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi may have been deliberately targeted by an Israeli army sniper.

According to sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the Palestinian authorities shared this information with Türkiye's Consulate General in Jerusalem after her killing.

The Palestinian officials believe that Eygi may have been deliberately targeted by an Israeli sniper and that the bullet used was a real one, not rubber-coated plastic bullet.

They also pointed out that journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed in a similar manner in 2022.

That is why, like Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian doctor will perform an autopsy on Eygi.

The 26-year-old Eygi, who was dual Turkish-American national, was shot dead by Israeli forces on Friday during a protest against illegal Israeli settlements in the town of Beita in the Nablus district of the occupied West Bank, according to eyewitnesses.

Eygi was born in the Turkish city of Antalya in 1998.
