Magnitude 5.6 earthquake strikes northern Chile
No tsunami threat reported after quake near Taltal

ISTANBUL
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck 111 kilometers (68.9 miles) southwest of Taltal in northern Chile on Tuesday, according to officials.
The quake, which occurred at 1718GMT, had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Chile’s National Seismological Center reported the quake struck with a magnitude of 5.5, located 15 kilometers northwest of Chanaral.
Authorities confirmed the quake did not meet the conditions necessary to generate a tsunami.
Taltal, a city in Chile’s Antofagasta Region, lies in a seismically active zone, but no immediate damage or casualties have been reported.
