Mexico’s government has evidence of two instances where US authorities committed human rights abuses against deported immigrants, the nation’s president said Thursday.

"When they arrive, they are interviewed to determine if there has been any violation of their human rights,” Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters. “We have two cases from these days: one of a Guatemalan woman and another of a Mexican national, both of whom speak about violations of their human rights.

While most of the incoming immigrants are of Mexican origin, she said, there are a few instances of foreign immigrants landing in Mexico. Sheinbaum pledged to protect those foreign immigrants, saying the Foreign Ministry is working to file a legal complaint against the US.

"Both the complaint filed by the Foreign Ministry to the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) in the US and a legal complaint in the US were to have the case reviewed," she said.

As President Donald Trump's campaign of mass deportation continues, leaders from Latin America say they have witnessed unjust excesses by US immigration authorities.

Alleged human rights violations by the Trump administration have already created tensions in Latin America, namely with Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who was willing to start a trade war with the US over the treatment of expatriated Colombians.
