ANKARA
Paraguay on Thursday opened its first embassy in Turkey’s capital Ankara.
The opening ceremony was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his Paraguayan counterpart Luis Alberto Castiglioni.
“W/opening of our Emb. In Asuncion in Nov.2018 & Paraguayan Emb. In Ankara today, our relations started in 1953 enter a new period,” Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Twitter.
Cavusoglu stressed bilateral relations between Turkey and Paraguay in the opening ceremony.
He hailed the efforts on increasing economic and commercial relations with Paraguay after President Mario Abdo Benitez came to power.
He also added that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is due to pay an official visit to Paraguay in December.
Castiglioni, for his part, said the relations between the two countries constitute a great potential.
“As of today, Turkey and Paraguay will always get closer to each other,” he added.
The Paraguay foreign minister said diplomatic relations between the countries have remained successful for 65 years.
He also sent his kindest regards to Erdogan and the people of Turkey.
