Peru declares 3 days of mourning over ex-leader's death
Alan Garcia committed suicide before his arrest for alleged links to a corruption scandal

ANKARA
Peru declared three days mourning Thursday in honor of former President Alan Garcia, who committed suicide amid a corruption probe.
Garcia, 69, shot himself in the head as police arrived at his home in Lima’s affluent Miraflores neighborhood Wednesday to arrest him for alleged links to a continent-wide corruption scandal involving Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died shortly after from a massive brain hemorrhage and cardiorespiratory arrest.
Garcia will be given a funeral with honors, according to the national news agency Andina.
He served as president from 1985 to 1990 and 2006 to 2011.
