US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed speculation regarding the 2028 White House race, affirming that his focus remains on his administrative duties while declining to permanently rule out a future campaign.
"I do not know what the future holds, but I have no plans at this time. I am 100% focused on my job," Rubio told Colombian broadcaster RCN on Tuesday, according to an NBC News report.
Rubio explained that his responsibilities as a Cabinet member and national security adviser command his immediate attention, though sources cited by NBC News noted that he is "keeping his options open for the future" political opportunities.
The State Department and Rubio did not comment on the NBC report.
The remarks follow earlier media reports that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth explored a potential 2028 presidential campaign, claims that Hegseth rejected by asserting that his sole priority is leading the Pentagon.
Vice President JD Vance and Rubio are widely seen as potential Republican contenders for the 2028 election.
