Trump signs executive order ending federal benefits for undocumented immigrants
Order directs agencies to cut taxpayer-funded benefits, enhance eligibility verification systems

WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday terminating all federal taxpayer-funded benefits for undocumented immigrants.
The order directs government agencies to identify federally funded programs that "permit illegal aliens to obtain any cash or non-cash public benefit" and take necessary actions to align these programs with the order’s objectives.
It also seeks to enhance eligibility verification systems to ensure that taxpayer-funded benefits are only available to those legally residing in the US.
Fox News, citing a White House fact sheet, reported that the House Homeland Security Committee estimates taxpayers may bear costs of up to $451 billion to support undocumented immigrants and those who have unlawfully entered the US since January 2021.
The fact sheet stated that the policies of the former Biden administration fueled a surge in illegal immigration, diverting funds and essential services from American citizens while placing increasing strain on state and local budgets.
"My administration will uphold the rule of law, defend against the waste of hard-earned taxpayer resources, and protect benefits for American citizens in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans," Trump said in the order.
