Trump team alleges Harris' $91.5M 'heist' of Biden's campaign funds

The Trump campaign team filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Tuesday, accusing Vice President Kamala Harris of committing the "largest campaign finance violation in American history" by attempting to use political donations originally made to US President Joe Biden, reported the American media.

"Kamala Harris is seeking to perpetrate a $91.5 million heist of Joe Biden’s leftover campaign cash," stated Trump campaign general counsel David Warrington, according to the New York Post.

The complaint targets Harris, Biden, the renamed "Harris for President" campaign committee, and its treasurer, describing the transfer of funds as "fraudulent."

Warrington argued that federal campaign finance law does not allow Harris to control Biden’s campaign funds by amending FEC forms.

Harris campaign spokesperson Charles Lutvak dismissed the complaint as "baseless" and emphasized the campaign’s success in building infrastructure and fundraising.

He accused Republicans of making "baseless legal claims" to distract from the Democrats' efforts to defeat Trump.

FEC Chairman Sean Cooksey acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the situation and anticipated legal challenges.

However, former Democratic FEC Commissioner Dara Lindenbaum contended that Harris is entitled to the campaign funds.

If Harris fails to secure the Democratic nomination or is deemed ineligible, the funds could be transferred to the Democratic National Committee or a super PAC aligned with the eventual nominee.

An Associated Press survey indicated Harris currently has enough delegate support to clinch the nomination.
