WASHINGTON
At least one person was injured Wednesday at a high school in Illinois before authorities took a suspected shooter into custody.
Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 confirmed the casualty at Mattoon High School on its Facebook page. The extent and nature of the injury is unknown, but the student has been transferred to a hospital.
"We are saddened that this event has happened and we will provide counseling to students in need," the school district said.
Multiple shots were fired in the school's cafeteria before the suspect was subdued and disarmed.
All buildings at the high school are on a "soft lockdown", the school district said.
Students have been bussed to a nearby school.
