Rubio, Al Zayani discuss 'safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation against Houthi threats,' says State Department

WASHINGTON
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani reiterated their commitment to enhancing security and stability in the Middle East during a meeting in Washington, the State Department said Wednesday.
The two discussed the importance of the US-Bahrain strategic partnership, including security cooperation, and the "shared commitment to safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation against Houthi threats, and a shared commitment to peace,” spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.
They also discussed economic ties, emphasizing collaboration in emerging technologies, and highlighted the US-Bahrain Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement and the Abraham Accords as "platforms for joint deterrence, diplomacy, security, and regional integration."
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to support greater security and stability in the Middle East, the statement added.
