US finalizing steps to delist Indian nuclear entities: Biden's top aide

NEW DELHI

The US government is in the process of finalizing necessary steps to delist Indian nuclear entities, President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said on Monday.

Sullivan held talks with Indian counterpart Ajit Doval in New Delhi, according to a joint release issued by the Indian government.

Sullivan briefed the "Indian side on the updates brought out by the Biden administration to U.S. missile export control policies under the Missile Technology Control Regime that will boost US commercial space cooperation with India," the statement said.

It said Sullivan announced "US efforts to finalize necessary steps to delist Indian nuclear entities, which will promote civil nuclear cooperation and resilient clean energy supply chains".

Following the Indian nuclear test in 1998, the US had imposed sanctions on Indian entities. However, over the years, the sanctions were eased.

Sullivan, who is on his last trip to India before the Biden administration leaves White House this month, also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership has scaled new heights, Modi wrote on X.

"Look forward to building upon this momentum in ties between our two democracies for the benefit of our people and global good," he said.

Under the Biden administration, the US-India annual trade climbed $190.1 billion, as Washington is New Delhi's largest trading partner.
