ANKARA 

The US state of Hawaii declared an emergency on Tuesday amid heavy flooding which caused widespread damage in the state.

"I've just signed an emergency proclamation for the State of Hawaii after heavy rains and flooding caused extensive damage to both public and private property across the islands," Governor David Ige said on Twitter.

"The emergency proclamation makes state general funds available that can be used quickly and efficiently to help those impacted by the severe weather, which is expected to continue until Friday," he continued.

At least six homes on the island of Maui and two bridges were heavily damaged or destroyed, according to the office of Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino.

While some parts of the state are still under a flash flood emergency and evacuation order, the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management said the flash flood emergency for Haleiwa and Oahu was canceled.

Haleiwa is no longer under an evacuation order.

No deaths or injuries have been reported by authorities.
