US military strikes Iranian-linked militia group's weapons storage facility in Syria
'The strike is in response to an Iranian-aligned attack against U.S. forces in Syria yesterday,' says CENTCOM
WASHINGTON
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Tuesday that it struck an Iranian-linked militia group's weapons storage facility in Syria.
"The strike is in response to an Iranian-aligned attack against U.S. forces in Syria yesterday," CENTCOM said in a release.
It said the strike aimed to degrade the group's ability to plan and launch future attacks on US and coalition forces who are in the region to carry out operations against Daesh/ISIS.
"As previously stated, we will not tolerate any attacks on our personnel and coalition partners. We are committed to taking all necessary actions to ensure their protection," said CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla.
