Gold adds 1.7%; oil prices up around 3%

US stock exchanges close mixed

ISTANBUL

Major stock exchanges in the US closed mixed Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 140 points, or 0.36%, to finish at 39,357.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, ended the session flat at 5,344. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, added 35 points, or 0.21%, to 16,780.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, added 1.7% to 20.71. The 10-year US Treasury yield decreased 1% to 3.906%.

The US dollar index increased 0.02% to 103.15, while the euro rose 0.11% to $1.0928 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 1.7% to $2,472 per ounce and silver increasing 1.9% to $27.97.

Oil prices were up around 3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $81.91 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $79.66.
