US vice president criticizes court rulings limiting executive power
‘Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power,’ says JD Vance
ANKARA
US Vice President JD Vance criticized recent judicial rulings that have limited President Donald Trump’s executive orders, arguing that such interventions exceed the bounds of legal authority.
"If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal," Vance said on X.
He compared the judicial limitations on executive powers to unlawful interference in military or prosecutorial discretion.
"Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power," he added.
Vance’s remarks follow multiple federal court decisions temporarily halting key policies of the Trump administration.
On Jan. 29, Washington District Judge Loren AliKhan issued an injunction against Trump’s order suspending federal grants and loans.
On Feb. 6, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly imposed limits on the Treasury Department’s access to payment records managed by the Financial Services Bureau, following a lawsuit from labor unions.
The same day, Maryland District Judge Deborah Boardman blocked Trump’s executive order restricting birthright citizenship.
Additionally, Judge Paul Engelmayer ruled on Feb. 8 to prevent Elon Musk’s Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) from accessing Treasury Department records.
