WASHINGTON

US Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance and his Democratic counterpart, Tim Walz, agreed to a debate hosted by CBS News on Oct. 1 in New York City.

"The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why (former) President (Donald) Trump has challenged (US Vice President) Kamala (Harris) to three of them already. Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well," the senator from the state of Ohio wrote on X, one day after Walz accepted the offer.

"See you on October 1, JD," the Minnesota governor wrote Wednesday on X.

CBS said the debate will be led by Norah O'Donnell, the anchor and managing editor of "CBS Evening News," along with Margaret Brennan, the moderator of "Face the Nation" and chief foreign affairs correspondent for CBS News.

The network said it suggested four dates for the debate: Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.

The Harris-Walz team agreed on Oct. 1.
