OIC CHANGES NAME AS ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION
ASTANA - The 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Member States began in Kazakh capital of Astana.

Participants have decided to change name of OIC as Organization of The Islamic Cooperation and use this name in the new term.
Addressing the opening of the meeting, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev asked a special working group to be established within OIC for restoration of stability in Afghanistan soon.
Nazarbayev said lack of confidence and instability in Afghanistan caused concern in the whole region and the world.
He said drug smuggling from Afghanistan has risen 10 times over the past decade, underlining that he proposed a special working group to be formed to deal with drug smuggling in Afghanistan and restore stability in this country.
Nazarbayev said Islamic countries should have the right to say in the world and that an "Islamic G20" should be established from the Islam countries that have strong economy. He said Muslims could be stronger in the world when this is fulfilled.
Nazarbayev also recommended a web-page to be formed to announce activities of OIC to the world, noting that everybody would be informed about the steps that would be made thanks to this web-page, which will be named as "e-Islam"
OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said he wished problems of the Islam world would be solved soon during the rotating presidency of Kazakstan and leadership of Kazakh President Nazarbayev.
Turkish State Minister Mehmet Aydin represents Turkey at the 38th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Organization of the Islamic Conference Member States.
The session takes place between June 28 and 30.
Astana government, which is the most important defender of Palestinian problem in Central Asia, is expected to exert intensive efforts for recognition of Palestinian state.
OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations which has membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The Organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world and ensuring to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
