TURKISH CITIZENS TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL WITH OLD PASSPORTS UNTIL NOVEMBER 2015
ANKARA - Turkish citizens, who have not yet obtained biometric passports (e-passports), will be able to use their old travel documents until November 24, 2015.

Replying to inquiries on the newly introduced e-passports, the Turkish Police Department said on Wednesday that citizens with unexpired passports would be able to use their old passports until the year 2015.
The department noted that citizens whose old passports had expired would be able to extend their documents' validity term until January 31, 2011.
Old passports would not be extended as of February 1, 2011 and those applying for an extension after such date would be given new biometric passports, the department announced.
Biometric passports have been designed in line with Turkey's EU adhesion process and their colors have been changed accordingly.
Regular biometric passports are now burgundy red in color, while diplomatic passports are black. Special and service passports are still green and gray respectively.
Dimensions of biometric passports are also different than the old ones. The dimensions have been changed as 88X125 mm in accordance with the standards of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Expired e-passports cannot be extended, instead, applicants are given new e-passports.
E-passports can be obtained from Police Department's 81 provincial and 287 district offices in Turkey and from Turkish consulates abroad.
Applications for extension of old passports ended on December 31, 2010 at Turkey's representations abroad.
A biometric passport, also known as an e-passport, is a combined paper and electronic passport that uses biometrics to authenticate the identity of travelers. It uses contactless smart card technology, including a microprocessor chip (computer chip) and antenna (for both power to the chip and communication) embedded in the front or back cover, or center page, of the passport.
The chip inside the passport contains information about the holder's face such as the distances between eyes, nose, mouth and ears. These details are taken from the passport photograph that you supply. They can then be used to identify the passport-holder. The chip also holds the information that is printed on the personal details page of your passport.
