Japan expands artificial intelligence teaching in high school education

KARACHI, Pakistan
Japan has expanded artificial intelligence (AI) teaching in high school education as educators feel an urgency to prepare the next generation for its vast potential ― both positive and negative.
Some 48 senior high school textbooks, covering eight subjects, have made generative AI a topic, in contrast to only one book touched on the issue in the last screening four years ago, public broadcaster NHK reported on Wednesday.
This increase shows that as generative AI becomes increasingly embedded in society, using generative AI as a tool has already become a growing presence in Japan's schools.
As the technology becomes more widespread, Japan's Education Ministry released new guidelines for the use of generative AI in schools in 2024.
