Dozens of people have been killed in latest junta airstrikes in Myanmar, the unity government in exile said on Tuesday.

“About 100 people of Kanbalu, Sagaing including children and women were killed by Myanmar military junta’s airstrikes,” the Labor Ministry of the National Unity Government (NUG) said on Twitter.

The incident happened early morning in Kanbalu township of the Sagaing region in northwestern Myanmar, according to local media.

Myanmar Now news agency reported that junta jets struck the inauguration ceremony of a People’s Administration Team office in the village of Pa Zi Gyi.

The office, according to Myanmar Now, “operates under the authority of Myanmar’s publicly mandated NUG which the country’s military junta has designated a terrorist organization.”

Around 150 people were attending the ceremony, the report said.

“The world must act quickly to assist the people of Myanmar to end impunity of junta,” the NUG said.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military overthrew Suu Kyi's government over two years ago.

The NUG was formed after Burmese military, locally known as Tatmadaw, ousted the government led by the National League for Democracy (NLD) in February 2021.

It runs from overseas.

The Myanmar junta also disbanded the NLD after it said the deadline for political parties to re-register under a new electoral law expired. The NLD and 40 others parties Tuesday failed to comply with the new law.
