British royal couple in Pakistan for 5-day visit

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan

British royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton on Monday evening arrived for a five-day visit to Pakistan.

The red carpet was rolled out for the royal couple, who were welcomed by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his wife at Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, as covered by state-run Pakistan Television.

During the visit, the royal couple will meet President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan. They will also visit the capital Islamabad, Lahore in the country's northeast, and the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan.

"Throughout their visit the Duke and Duchess will tour the country to see the dynamic, aspirational and modern Pakistan," the British High Commission in Islamabad said in a statement.

The visit will span over 1,000 kilometers, and will take in Pakistan’s rich culture, its diverse communities, and its beautiful landscapes, the statement added.
