Cases, deaths hit grim peak as Delta strain ravages Thailand

JAKARTA, Indonesia

As a frightful Delta variant wave grips the country, Thailand’s daily coronavirus cases and fatalities hit a new peak on Friday.

Authorities reported a record high of 191 deaths and 21,379 infections, pushing the overall count to 714,684, including 5,854 fatalities.

This is the third straight day of record COVID-19 cases in Thailand, following 20,920 infections on Thursday and 20,200 on Wednesday.

A total of 22,172 more patients also recovered in the country, raising the overall tally to 495,904.

Thailand has recorded 685,821 cases and 5,760 fatalities since a third wave driven by the highly infectious Delta variant started on April 1.
