China to host 2026 APEC summit
Foreign Ministry highlights plans to enhance regional cooperation, implement key Asia-Pacific initiatives
ISTANBUL
China offered to host the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) summit, gaining support and endorsements from member economies, its Foreign Ministry said Sunday.
Describing APEC as an essential mechanism for economic collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region, the ministry said China wants to advance regional cooperation by assuming the responsibility.
The 2026 summit will mark China’s third time hosting APEC after 2001 and 2014.
China expressed a readiness to work closely with other members to successfully organize the event.
The ministry emphasized that the summit will focus on implementing Putrajaya Vision 2040, fostering the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, and building a stronger Asia-Pacific community. Putrajaya Vision 2040 is a strategy for APEC’s priorities that were adopted in 2024 for the next two decades.
It added that hosting the summit aims to deliver tangible outcomes through practical cooperation and contribute new momentum to economic growth in the region and beyond.
