ISTANBUL 

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin in the capital Beijing on Friday. 

"President Xi Jinping and Vice President Alckmin discussed enhancing strategic collaboration. They aim to inject new content into China-Brazil relations, leveraging their five decades of cooperation and friendship," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying shared on X.

The meeting came as China and Brazil mark 50 years of bilateral diplomatic relations, she added.

Both leaders agreed to utilize this milestone anniversary to forge a promising future for China-Brazil relations.


Alckmin is on a five-day trip to China for wide-ranging meetings with officials and business leaders. He has signed several trade agreements on sustainable development, agriculture and infrastructure.

The two sides are also expected to discuss the inclusion of Latin America in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
