Malaysia vows to enhance ties with Brunei Darussalam

JAKARTA, Indonesia

The Malaysian prime minister on Tuesday vowed to enhance bilateral relations with Brunei Darussalam in various aspects, including in overcoming the coronavirus pandemic.

“As neighboring countries, we agreed that Malaysia and Brunei should not make the pandemic an obstacle in efforts to improve the cooperation,” said Muhyiddin Yassin in a statement posted on Facebook after receiving a farewell visit from Alaihuddin Taha, high commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia.

Alaihuddin will end his service at the end of the month.

The premier said the two countries should work together to revive the economy affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding the invitation from Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah to visit his country, Muhyiddin said he planned to visit in the first quarter of next year.
