Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli paid an official trip to Thailand on Wednesday, marking the first premier-level visit since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1959.
Premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra hosted Oli in Bangkok, the Thai Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The two sides discussed various topics such as the promotion and facilitation of business, trade, and investment, the statement said.
Eight agreements were signed by the two sides on agriculture/agricultural technology, tourism, culture, people-to-people exchanges, and cooperation for development.
“Honored to undertake the first official visit to Thailand as Prime Minister of Nepal,” Oli said on X about the meeting, adding that he and Shinawatra had “fruitful talks.”
“We agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and cultural ties for mutual growth,” Oli said. “A new chapter in our partnership!”
On Thursday, Oli is expected to meet with Thai business leaders and address the Asian Institute of Technology, according to The Kathmandu Post.
After his bilateral engagements, Oli will head the Nepali delegation to the sixth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit hosted by Bangkok, where he will speak on Friday.
BIMSTEC, founded in 1997, promotes regional cooperation and consists of seven member states: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
