New highest daily jump in India with 22,772 virus cases
More than 394,000 people have recovered from infection in country
NEW DELHI
India on Saturday reported its biggest single-day spike of 22,772 coronavirus cases and 442 deaths, according to the Health Ministry.
The coronavirus positive cases now stand at 648,315, while 18,655 people have died of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.
The ministry data also revealed that 394,227 people have recovered from the infection.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that they have tested samples of 9,540,132 people till June 3, with 242,383 tests run on Friday.
The western state of Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 192,990 coronavirus cases while the death toll has risen to 8,376 with 198 news deaths in the last 24 hours.
The cases in Tamil Nadu, the second-worst-coronavirus-hit state, crossed the 100,000 mark with the addition of 4,329 new infections in a day. The death count has reached 1,385 with 64 new deaths reported in a day, according to the official data.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan said that 11,300 ventilators made in India were dispatched and 6,154 were delivered to hospitals. The ministry has also supplied 102,000 oxygen cylinders across the country.
