Pakistan's president and prime minister vowed to overcome challenges and obstacles while marking the 85th Independence Day resolution on Sunday.

The day commemorates the Lahore Resolution, passed in 1940, which outlined the demand for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Sub-continent.

In a statement, Pakistan's President Ali Zardari congratulated the nation on "Pakistan Day," while acknowledging that the country faces "significant political, economic, and security challenges."

"In today's world, Pakistan must navigate complex realities, tackle economic pressures, and pursue sustainable development," said Zardari, adding that the Southeast Asian nation "possesses the potential to overcome these challenges and emerge stronger."

"We should focus on strengthening national security, revitalizing the economy, advancing agriculture, ensuring energy security, and creating opportunities for our youth. We must invest in healthcare and social welfare to ensure no Pakistani is left behind."

The president emphasized Pakistan's commitment to building "stronger relationships" with neighbors and the global community.

Zardari also reiterated Islamabad's "steadfast support" for Jammu, Kashmir, and Palestine, urging the international community to take "immediate and decisive steps to ensure the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions" to allow the people to determine their own futures.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated that Pakistan can overcome the challenges facing the country while commemorating the day.

"No challenge is insurmountable, no adversity too great, if we stand united in our purpose and committed to our ideals. With determination, hard work, and a shared vision, we will continue to build a stronger, more prosperous, and progressive Pakistan," said Sharif.
