President's office says she will continue to serve as country's vice president

ANKARA

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has resigned from the Cabinet of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, an official said on Wednesday.

"Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, went to Malacanang and tendered her resignation as Member of the Cabinet, Secretary of the Department of Education, and Vice Chairperson of the NTF-ELCAC, effective 19 July 2024," said the president’s office on X.

However, she will continue to serve as the country's vice president.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil did not share further details about the reasons why she quit the Cabinet.
