ISTANBUL (AA) – Russia and Iran signed a key agreement on Friday to formalize their military cooperation, state news agency TASS reported.

The agreement, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a ceremony at the Kremlin, includes extensive provisions for joint defense and security collaboration.

According to Article 5 of the agreement, the two sides will work to develop military cooperation through the establishment of a Working Group on Military Collaboration.

This will involve the preparation and implementation of agreed activities under the guidance of their respective defense authorities.

“The military partnership between Russia and Iran encompasses a wide range of areas, including the exchange of military and expert delegations, joint naval visits to ports, training and development of personnel, and participation in international defense exhibitions,” the agreement said.

The document further outlines that both countries will conduct joint military drills within their territories, subject to mutual consent and in accordance with international norms.

Collaborative measures will also include joint naval operations to address issues such as search-and-rescue missions, combating piracy, and maritime security.
