South Koreans experienced the coldest day of the season on Sunday, with morning temperatures in the capital Seoul plummeting to minus 12.4 degrees Celsius (9.8 degrees Fahrenheit), forcing aviation authorities to cancel flights, according to the state weather agency.
Temperatures are expected to drop further early Monday, with morning lows in the capital ranging from -18 C to -3 C, Seoul-based Yonhap News reported, citing the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
The KMA said the Daegwallyeong district in Gangwon Province saw morning lows of -16.8 C and a sensible temperature of nearly -29.7 C on Sunday.
Amid the cold wave and heavy snow, some 14 flights were canceled and another 97 were delayed on the southern resort island of Jeju on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The flight cancellations at Jeju airport came a day after the KMA issued heavy snow warnings for the country's central and western areas.
