ANKARA

Last week Pakistani army conducted "retaliatory" strikes allegedly against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) a militant group inside Afghanistan in Khost and Kunar provinces. While Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the attack, Shabir Ahmed Osmani, director of information said at least 41 people including children were killed in the attack.

Pakistani sources, however, said the action was taken after a series of terrorist attacks on its forces in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, bordering Afghanistan over the past many months.

From January to March 2022, a total of "97 Pakistani soldiers and officers were killed in terrorist attacks," said Pakistan army media wing head Lt-Gen Baber Iftikhar at a press briefing.

Here is a timeline detailing major terrorist attacks against Pakistani forces since January 2022:

Unidentified assailants killed a police official, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asghar, near Mandan Police Station in Bannu town (Bannu District).

Jan. 5

During an intelligence-based operation (IBOs) in Kot Kili village of South Waziristan District, two soldiers lost their lives.

Jan. 13

A terrorist attack kills an army soldier at a military post in Janikhel area of Bannu District.

Jan. 16

Frontier Corps (FC) soldier lost his life in a terror attack near Karmukhel village of Lakki Marwat District.

Jan. 17

Unidentified assailants shot a shopkeeper present inside his shop near Sheegal Stop in the Afghan refugees camp of Gandaf Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate in Swabi District.

Jan. 19

Terrorists in an ambush injure three policemen in Kulachi tehsil (revenue unit) of Dera Ismail Khan District.

Feb. 1

Three Army personnel were killed and several others injured when Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) targeted a military convoy with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Absar Kaor area of Turbat town in Kech District of Balochistan.

Feb. 2

One soldier was killed during an exchange of fire when Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants allegedly tried to enter a security forces' camp in Panjgur District.

Feb. 3

One police officer was killed and two others sustained injuries after unidentified assailants opened fire on them at a check-post within the remits of Jalozai Police Station in Nowshera District.

Six people, including two Levies personnel, were injured after unidentified militants threw a grenade at a Levies check-post at the Roghani Road area of Chaman town in Killa Abdullah district.

At least five Police personnel got injured in a remote-control blast in Maddi Road Gara in Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan District.

Two policemen were killed and another injured after gunmen attacked them at a restaurant in the Eastern Bypass area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan.
