A hundred Turkish youths competed to ring a golden bell to visit South Korea at Ankara University’s sports hall on Saturday.

'Who will ring the Golden Bell?' is an annual competition organized by the Korean Cultural Center since 2014.

This year no contestant was able to answer all 50 questions on South Korea, losing the chance to win a free trip to the country.

However, the top three contestants were awarded cash prizes and free Korean lessons at Sejong Hakdang Institute in Ankara.

Speaking at the event, Dong-Woo Cho, counselor of the South Korean Embassy, said this was the first among many events planned for this year.

He added more contests and cultural events would follow Saturday’s event, including K-pop (Korean pop), Korean cuisine and language competitions.

Interest in Korean music, culture and drama has risen in Turkey after national broadcaster TRT aired the first Korean soap in 2005.

Korean Cultural Centre has been attracting art lovers since its establishment in 2011.
