ANKARA
Anadolu Agency delegates paid a visit to Iranian news agency IRNA on Tuesday in Tehran.
Chief editor of the foreign languages news desk Mehmet Ozturk was in Tehran Tuesday for the launch of Anadolu Agency’s Persian desk and the inauguration of its Tehran office.
“Turkey-Iran relations have their roots in history. The two countries which have many mutual values have many mutual interests as well,” said Ozturk during a meeting with IRNA’s director general Muhammed Huddadi.
“We should make an effort to improve our relations with mutual respect,” said Ozturk.
Meanwhile, the head of IRNA, Huddadi said: “Both countries should make an effort to strengthen relations and intensify bilateral visits. We should communicate closely to understand each other correctly and prevent misunderstandings.”
“Iranians prefer Turkey for trips and holidays," he added. "Even my family and I prefer to spend our holidays in Turkey. Because Turkey is a country with a culture closer to us.”
Anadoly Agency’s Persian news editor Hikmet Gok said: “We know that IRNA news agency has a different standing than other media outlets in Iran. We do not perceive a news story from an ordinary newspaper in Iran and the stories of IRNA the same way. That is why we care about IRNA’s stories about Turkey."
Anadolu Agency launched its Persian wire service and opened an office in Tehran on Tuesday as part of its centennial vision to rank among the world's five most influential news agencies by 2020.
