A panel titled “Trust and accuracy in a rapidly changing media landscape” was held Wednesday as part of the Delphi Economic Forum in the Greek town of Delphi.
Moderated by Aria Agatsa, president of the Board of Directors of the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), commonly known as AMNA, the panel featured Yusuf Ozhan, deputy director general and editor-in-chief of Anadolu, Claudia-Victoria Nicolae, general director of AGERPRES, the Romanian National News Agency, and Andreas Frangos, chairman of the Cyprus News Agency (KYPE).
Speaking at the panel, Ozhan said that in a world where global developments unfold rapidly, Anadolu maintains a very fast news flow, adding that its reporters strive to combat disinformation and provide accurate news through a strong sense of professional identity.
He noted that journalists encounter hundreds of different news items every day, including disinformation.
“Anadolu reporters strive to present the truth as it is, without altering the nature or core message of the story, as in Gaza, where populations are facing genocide. The Anadolu team seeks to convey the reality to the world in its entirety,” he said.
Ozhan underlined that while parties in conflict zones may have differing perspectives, journalists must always pursue the truth.
He also stressed that reaching accurate information sometimes requires patience rather than haste, adding that citizen journalism contributes to traditional journalism. He noted that information obtained from citizens and social media is meticulously verified by Anadolu’s fact-checking team.
Nicolae emphasized that state news agencies should aim to reach younger audiences and adapt to new technologies in ways that attract their interest.
Pointing out that errors can occur in journalism due to the human factor, she said: “If we openly acknowledge our mistakes, we can be trustworthy.”
Frangos highlighted that state agencies, when guided by a sense of national responsibility, must deliver accurate news even if the truth may be uncomfortable.
Agatsa also noted that artificial intelligence is transforming the media landscape and said that in a world where disinformation is widespread, national news agencies play a crucial role in ensuring accurate reporting.
