Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency on Wednesday participated in the 30th General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Yusuf Ozhan, Anadolu Agency’s deputy director-general and editor-in-chief, and Oguz Karakas, the agency’s project management coordinator, participated in the event hosted by the Croatian news agency HINA.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Ozhan said AMAN, of which the Turkish agency is an important part, gathered the leading news agencies under its umbrella.

“We voted for AMAN's next term presidency,” he said. “According to the voting results, HINA, the host, Croatia’s news agency, will be chairing the union in the coming period.”

Noting that Anadolu Agency will continue sharing its experiences to advance journalism, Ozhan said: “We presented our ideas and suggestions regarding the cooperation between members of AMAN.”

“At the forefront of these are acting jointly on environmental and climate issues, and conducting more sensitive and special studies,” he said. “What makes this meeting special is that we, as the news agencies of the Mediterranean, published it as a statement.”

HINA General Director Branka Gabriela Vojvodic, who took over the one-year term presidency of AMAN from Algeria Press Service (APS), said that they highlighted the role of the media against information pollution in a joint statement.

“As AMAN, we have also decided that we want to discuss more about issues such as ecology, climate change, and the environment.”

For his part, APS Director General Samir Gaid said despite all the problems and difficulties, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak, AMAN continues its cooperation and information exchange.

George Penintaex, director of Cyprus News Agency, was elected as the secretary general of AMAN once again.

Also, a cooperation agreement was signed between HINA and APS.

HINA also organized an international conference on Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean - The Role of Media that brought together AMAN representatives and members.
