Oi Va Voi to take to the stage in Turkish capital
British band Oi Va Voi will perform at CerModern in Turkey’s capital Ankara on September 27.
The London-based six-piece – and Istanbul regulars – takes their name from a Yiddish expression for ‘Oh my God!’
Mixing the sounds of Eastern European and traditional Jewish music, the band formed in the 90s.
Their hit song Refugee from their 2003 debut album 'Laughter Through Tears' made them well-known, winning two prizes at the BBC Radio 2 World Music awards.
Their 2009 album “Travelling the Face of the Globe” brought them to a worldwide audience.

Turkish diva Sezen Aksu gets ready for two-gig Istanbul performance
Legendary Turkish singer Sezon Aksu will perform for two nights at Istanbul’s Harbiye Open Air Theatre on September 28 and 29.
Turkish pianist and composer Fahir Atakoglu and an acoustic band will be accompany the 60-year-old artist. Turkish singers Mustafa Ceceli and Erdem Yoruk will also peform with Aksu.
Aksu, regarded as the queen of Turkish contemporary music, has sold millions of records during her 40-year career.
Both a songwriter and composer, the Turkish pop icon has broken many taboos by focusing on personal and political issues in her songs.

Belgian conceptual art to go on display at Akbank Sanat Gallery
Istanbul’s Aksanat Gallery is set to host Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers’ exhibition until November 29.
Entitled ‘Words, things and concepts’ the exhibition has been organized in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst in the Belgium city of Ghent, and is curated by Hasan Bulent Kahraman.
A series of conferences and film screenings will also be organized along with the exhibition.
Regarded as one of the most prominent founders of the conceptual art of 20th century, Broodthaers (1924-1976) was also a poet and filmmaker.
According to a 1989 New York Times article, Broodthaers ended his literary career by creating an artwork out of 50 unsold copies of his last book.
In the preface for an exhibition catalogue he wrote: "I, too, wondered if I could not sell something and succeed in life… The idea of inventing something insincere finally crossed my mind, and I set to work at once."

Hard Rock Cafe Istanbul opening party
With outlets in 58 countries across the world, Hard Rock Cafe will see its Istanbul branch open the new season with a big party at Kucukciftlik Park on September 27.
Turkish rock singer Sebnem Ferah, veteran Turkish rock group MFO, founder of Turkish folk rock music Mogollar, rock band Pentagram and musician Ogun Sanlisoy will perform at the party.
The Hard Rock Café’s traditional guitar-smashing ritual will also take place during the gig.

World’s art galleries to meet in Istanbul
Istanbul will host a contemporary art fair to bring together professionals from 24 countries in Istanbul’s Halic Congress Center between September 26 and 28.
At least 80 modern and contemporary art galleries from San Francisco to Hong Kong and Helsinki to Jeddah will come together for ArtInternational.
World artists such as Marina Abramovic, Ai Weiwei, Banksy, Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Tracey Emin’s works can be seen during the fair.
The first ArtInternational fair was held in 2013.
