A grand piano belonging to famous British singer Sting has been sold at an auction house in London for 116,500 pounds ($162,634), it was announced Wednesday.
Sting used the 1909 German-made Steinway grand piano for about a decade on three of his albums: Songs from the Labyrinth, If on a Winter's Night... and The Last Ship, Christie’s auction house said in a statement.
“The piano was restored, ebonized and subsequently purchased by Sting and [his wife] Trudie Styler in 2002,” the statement added.
World renowned artist Sting was the songwriter, lead singer and bass guitarist of a new wave rock band The Police between 1977 and 1984.
Later, he launched a very successful solo career, producing several singles and albums. He also received many national and international awards, together with 16 Grammy awards, including for those won with The Police.
Sting was also appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to the music industry in 2003.
