Borsa Istanbul starts week with gains

ISTANBUL

Turkey's benchmark stock index opened the week at 1,523.54 points, up 0.1%, or 1.5 points from the previous close.

At the close of the shortened transaction week, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up by 0.18% to 1,522.04 points, with a daily trading volume of 8.76 billion Turkish liras ($922.8 million).

Last week, the market closed midday on Thursday and was closed on Friday due to Turkey's National Republic Day on Oct. 29.

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 9.5620 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 9.6080 at Thursday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also decreased to 11.0490, compared to 11.1360, while one British pound traded for 13.1010 Turkish liras, down from 13.1650.

One barrel of Brent crude oil was sold for around $83.4 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
